Eastern General Insurance is an insurance company based
in Rochester, New York with offices throughout Rochester and Buffalo New
York.
The Problem:
Multiple Offices Without Data Interconnectivity
Because of the multiple locations in different cities
there were multiple data sets on multiple servers. This created two
problems.
First, the customer's data was only be available in the
location where that customer started their policy. If a customer went into a
location other than where they started their policy the Customer Service
Reps [CSR] would have to call for all the necessary information. This tied
up phone lines and people.
Second, All of the central management functions had to be
done by phone or fax, creating more paper and requiring more time.
The Solution:
Working together with Eastern General Insurance, Aarons
Consulting designed and implemented a sub netted network where every store
is it's own network, but is connected to every other store using Netopia
firewall / VPN routers over cable modem connections. This effectively allows
Eastern General Insurance to use the Internet as a point to point connection
to all of the other stores. The low cost of the cable modem connection keeps
monthly costs down and the VPN and firewall insure Internet security.
When the CSRs need customer information from another
location they simply double click the desktop icon for the office they need
and connect to a remote desktop session on a computer in the other office.
This gives them all of the functionality they would have had if they had
driven to the other store and logged on to a workstation.
